How Is High-Purity Graphite Made and Where Is It Used?
With growing demand for electric vehicles and grid storage, the U.S. is onshoring synthetic graphite production to secure domestic battery supply chains and reduce reliance on imports.
Anovion is a relatively new company that makes synthetic graphite for battery production in the US. The company was started before the Infrastructure Act or Inflation Reduction Act, but its timing couldn’t be better. Chip Dunn, the company’s Chairman and co-founder, talks about ramping up production so North American battery manufacturers can source their graphite locally without going overseas.

Fueling the Future with Domestic Battery Materials
Synthetic graphite is a cornerstone of the lithium-ion battery revolution—but today’s supply chains rely heavily on China. The U.S. must accelerate onshoring efforts to remain competitive, resilient, and sustainable.
Klean Industries Is Part of the Solution:
✅ Converts tire pyrolysis char into battery-grade recovered carbon graphite
✅ Circular graphite refining systems that close the materials loop
✅ Ideal for EVs, grid storage, and clean energy supply chains
✅ KleanLoop™ tracks material flow from waste to battery integration
