Recycling worn and damaged vehicle tires has become a big business since rubber tires are banned from land site disposal. Various rubber products are manufactured from recycled rubber crumb when mixed with asphalt, such as road and sport track resurfacing. However, the tires can produce diesel oil and syngas through various processes. The oil can also be used as heating or marine oil; the gas usually runs gas turbines in power stations. Numerous industries are incinerating tires for energy, either as whole tires in cement production or shredded into rubber crumbs and mixed with coal or wood to fire boilers. The rubber crumb supplements coal and wood, saving fuel through incinerating tires for energy.
